Noctum's Wound
The Dark Cave is the first zone in Ultimate Dominion — a wound torn in reality by the death of Noctum, the god of death. It's a 10×10 grid of tunnels, caverns, and darkness. Here's how to navigate it.
Map Layout
The Dark Cave is a 10×10 tile grid. Coordinates run from (0,0) in the northwest corner to (9,9) in the southeast. You move one tile at a time using arrow keys or on-screen buttons.
Safe and Danger Zones
The map is divided into two zones based on coordinates:
| Zone | Condition | PvP | Monster Levels |
|---|---|---|---|
| Safe Zone | x < 5 and y < 5 | Disabled | 1–6 (lower-level) |
| Danger Zone | x ≥ 5 or y ≥ 5 | Enabled | 6–10 (higher-level) |

Monster Spawning
Monster level is determined by distance from the spawn point (0,0), measured using Chebyshev distance (the greater of horizontal and vertical distance):
- Distance < 5 — spawns level 1–5 monsters (lower-level bestiary creatures).
- Distance ≥ 5 — spawns level 6–10 monsters (including the Shadow Dragon).
Each tile can hold 0 to 5 monsters at any time. Monsters spawn randomly — the same tile won't always have the same creatures.
Key Locations
| Location | Coordinates | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Spawn Point / Escrow | (0, 0) | Where you enter the world. Deposit/withdraw gold for Adventure Escrow here. |
| Fragment Center | (5, 5) | Reaching this tile triggers a lore fragment. In the heart of the danger zone. |
| Tal's Shop | (9, 9) | NPC shop — buy and sell weapons, armor, consumables. Deep in the danger zone. |

Navigation Tips
- Stay in the corner — the 5×5 northwest corner (x<5, y<5) is safe. Moving past row 4 or column 4 puts you in the danger zone.
- Level by distance — you can roughly control monster difficulty by staying close to or far from the spawn point.
- Retreat to safety — if you're low on HP or potions, head back toward the northwest. The safe zone border is your lifeline.
- Watch the tile — before moving, check the tile detail panel to see what monsters (and players) are on adjacent tiles.
