On Gaming
Games are meant to be fun first. Nothing else matters. Fun is created through mechanics that challenge you and make you feel accomplished when completed. It is also woven into the rich lore that immerses you in a different world. Fun arises from teamwork and collaboration, as well as from competing against others. Balance is crucial, allowing anyone to work their way up the ranks. Onchain games should be a platform where others can extend and enhance the game in their own ways.
On Lore
We are all on our own hero’s journey in real life. Through fantasy, we escape and embark on separate adventures. Collective storytelling creates a special, lasting game where people are always playing. Great storytelling keeps you coming back even after years. It makes you feel like part of the game by identifying with the characters. Great stories have great payoffs that require time and effort. We have the opportunity to recreate new stories for ourselves, with real heroes created in real-time through collaborative on-chain world-building. Our heroes and battles should be recorded in the annals of Ultimate Dominion. The story should be owned by those who play it.
On Teamwork, Competition, and Community
Lore should be built through the activities of players and the creativity of their minds. We team up with friends and battle enemies. What happens in the game stays in the game—it is a game, after all. Guilds are a positive sum; we give away a bit of our earnings for protection and easier progression. Guilds should be competitive; we all want to be the best. We should be able to meet in real life and appreciate the collective story we’re creating. Community matters. The more people who play, the more we all enjoy. Everyone is new at some point.
On Progression and Balance
MORPGs are infinite games—progression should be slow and measured. We must always consider the balance of the game as we add new mechanics. The lore must remain logical as we progress. Money may give you a head start or status, but it should not prevent anyone from participating fairly.
On Economics
Earning should be secondary to fun. Onchain games are special because they have real stakes. We shouldn’t be afraid to put ourselves on the line. There should be backstops and safety nets. When whales participate in the game, everyone else should benefit.
